UNOFFICIAL ARIZONA & CALIFORNIA RR WEB PAGE

This page will be under construction for a while till I can get the necessary photos I want and other pertinent info.
So please enjoy what is here so far.  Eventually there will be pictures galore on this page to view of both track side
and motive power in detail.

This page is dedicated to the Arizona & California Railroad which has its headquarters in Parker, AZ.  My goal here is
to set this page up from the point of view of a modeler so anyone wanting to model this road has only to come here to
get all information needed.

LOCOMOTIVES

Arizona & California Railroad Co.  has 10 locomotives on the property.

3001, 3004 GP30 phase I
3002, 3003 GP30 phase II

My belief is these four GP30's are all from B&O/C&O heritage because all units have the "Mail Box Slot" in the battery
boxes.

3501 GP35 phase 1a
3502 GP35 phase 1b

My belief is that 3501 & 3502 are of PRR heritage because of the location of the grab irons on the top of the nose and
the side of the nose.  They are opposite of where they would normally be.

3503 GP35 phase 1c

My belief is that this unit is of Southern Pacific heritage because of the split battery boxes under the cab.

3801, 3803 GP38

My belief is these two units are of B&O heritage because I read that somewhere :-).

3804 GP38

Have no clue where this unit came from.

There is one more GP38 ex B&O GP40 #3802 which is indefinitely leased to Puget Sound & Pacific.  I believe Arizona & California
is the parent company to both Puget Sound & Pacific and California Northern.

If anyone has any information on the true heritage of these locomotives and their previous road numbers while in service with
their heritage roads, please EMAIL  me so I can update this information.

MY HO SCALE ACR PROJECTS:

10/29/00
GP35 3503 based on a Kato phase 1c model.  I have just started this project.

This is a view if the new DA fan housings and DA etched brass grills.  I was lucky enough to get a top view of
this locomotive to know what grills had buttons.  Also you will notice the use of a Life Like 36" dia pan top fan.
I also used a DA sand filler hatch.  You will notice the filled in number boards.  I have not had much luck with
filling in number boards with putty.  The red putty has since been sanded.  I was able to still feel the gaps and
a slight sunken in area.  I have since made up a mixture of Evergreen styrene pieces and liquid cement (Proweld)
and painted this over the number board area.  I now need to smoothen this out.  You will also note the use of a few
Cannon & Co. pieces.  The inertial filter hatch and GP35 exhaust hatch.  I still need to add lift rings  and lifting tabs.
It is hard to see in this picture, but I also added access doors to both sides of the DB hatch.  I used doors from a
Cannon & Co. hood end.  In photo 2 I noticed I need to put a little filler putty in where the fan hatch grab goes in.
The hole is slightly larger than the wire grab.

This is a view of the long hood end.  The filling of the number boards looks rather crude in this picture, but it really
did come out smooth.  I only have to find one item before this end is done.  That is the small blank off plate for the
top of the light bracket.  I wrote Dan Crews of Sunrise Enterprises to see if he makes this part.  He did make the
large blank off plate.  I was able to carefully remove the class lights and only leave the grommet ring.  I added DA
circular ports.  After adding the light housing I drilled and filed it out.  The grab irons will be added after painting.
I'm waiting on a blank off plate from Sunrise Enterprises and brass lift rings from Detail Associates and then the
long hood will be done.

Photo 4 shows a new fuel filler.  Here I simply cut out the molded on fuel filler, cut the opening to the size of the
mounting ring.  Then I made a cup to fit behind the opening and installed a Detail Associates fuel filler and cap.  This
gives depth and dimension to the fuel filler.

Photo 5 shows the finished pilots.  Both ends look the same.  I cut off the running boards. installed NBW's in the
appropriate places, added MU grab holders and installed Details West MU hoses and train line hose.  Also added
Detail Associates modern coupler lift bar.  Had to modify the bend so I could put mounting brackets outboard.  I think
next time I may try bending my own coupler lift bars.  If I can make these in N-Scale, it should be a snap to make them
in HO.  A reinforcement strip was added to the bottom of the pilot and the lower outside edges were trimmed according
to the prototype.  I also notched out the top edges of the pilot plate for access to the coupler lift bar.
